Research

Starting research can be difficult. These resources are specifically built and provided to help you become a better researcher and find what you need.

What is a "Libguide"?

A Libguide is simply a "Library Guide." If you see the word, you can shorten it to simply "guide" and we will typically do so, within the Libguides themselves.

Libguides are pages that are broken down into categories:

General Purpose: These guides cover broad terms, like the Research guide you're reading now. They are a broad platform to jump off from.

Subject Guides: These guides cover one specific subject, an example would be: Art Resouces, or Business Resources. These guides are useful for subjects that multiple courses would find helpful.

Topic Guide: An example of a Topic would be the Copyright and Fair Use guide. That guide covers one topic extensively, that anyone might need or find useful.

Course Guide: A guide written often by the professor themselves. These guides are specific to materials which are useful for one course in particular.

Guides are designed to be helpful to you, the user. They contain videos, links, books, and other resources which may build upon your knowledge of the topic or area at hand. A Libguide may help answer some common questions before they arise, so always check and see if there's a Libguide that covers an area you're interested in.

How do I use a Libguide?

Using Libguides

By merely using the library website, which you are currently on, you are "using" Libguides. These guides are simply specific web pages that detail information and resources on specific topics. You can click page tab "List of Libguides" and see a breakdown of all the guides we have created, you can search for Libguides there, as well.

There will be links to various guides on all kinds of other pages, usually connected by subject, so you'll might find quite a few connections in other places as well.

So to summarize:

  1. Go to "List of Libguides" page
  2. Find Libguide
  3. Read, click, explore, and learn
  4. That's it.

Frequently Asked Questions (Libguides)

Answer: Control and Access. Information changes so rapidly, and the library must create, curate, and update information so quickly and for so many areas, that if we had to outsource this process our CUNE community would suffer. So, for the benefit of our students, faculty and staff we use the Libguides system to make sure that our information is as up-to-date as it can be.
Answer: Of course! Email the library at library@cune.edu with the subject "Libguide Suggestions," and all serious inquiries and requests will be considered. If there's an area that should be added to a current Libguide, or a topic which requires it's own, we will look at creating it. Found a bad link, or resource doesn't go where it should? Let us know that as well! As these guides are designed for the CUNE community, we will only be considering suggestions verified CUNE users and third party suggestions will not be considered.
